March 8 is a significant day in many parts of Europe – International Women’s Day – which is actually spreading in popularity around the world. No where is it more popular than in Italy, where men go out of their way to celebrate the women in their lives by bringing them bouquets of flowers from mimosa trees. From the minute you walk out of your door, we are greeted by doormen, the guy at the newspaper stand, and shopkeepers sweeping off their stoops, “Good morning! Best wishes for a happy Women’s Day to you!” they proclaim with a smile and a nod of the head. There are bursts of sunny yellow all over the street, tucked under an arm of a student carrying a bouquet to his teacher, pinned into a lapel, and draping around the florists’ shops waiting to be bought.
So when photographer Maryana Milaslavskaya opened her door on March 8, she was immediately inspired to create a wedding photo shoot to celebrate the coming of spring through the femininity and cheer of the yellow mimosa flower. Entitled “Awakening,” this photo shoot gives plenty of ideas for brides who are planning a spring wedding or who are thinking about using yellow in their wedding. “Morning. On the calendar “March 8”. The flower shops are crowded by men. From a timid teenager who chooses a bouquet to her classmate to finally confess her feelings to her, to a gray-haired old man looking at a sprig of mimosa for his wife. Men of all ages are united by a single motive – “to please their women.” The city is permeated with the smell of flowers, which drags along the trail and penetrates every street, forcing women to open the windows wider and smile. It seems today they are a little happier.
The most spring flower in our latitudes – mimosa – inspired us to create the picture. It symbolizes sensuality and the coming spring. This is what was the main element for choosing the name “Awakening”. Spring awakening after a long winter, where yellow mimosa flowers are a warm sun, which is so lacking in gray everyday life.
Lightness, airiness and weightlessness, we saw so the morning of our bride. And we did it!”
