We have an absolutely perfectly-done beach wedding in shades of ocean blue for you today! Heather and Kevin’s wedding in Vancouver uses the most beautiful shade of dusty blue color in such a wonderful way to compliment their location! I love the subtle mermaid reference in Heather’s wedding gown by Allure Bridal – it’s a mermaid silhouette with a scalloped sweetheart neckline that makes me think of a mermaid’s shell corset. And it’s not often that we are quite this absorbed in the bridesmaids’ gowns, but these dusty blue chiffon gowns from BDLN are stunning with the wind blowing through the sheer layers and everyone in a slightly different neckline. They all look like sirens of the deep! The guys are dressed to impress too. I think it’s so chic to have all the groomsmen sans waistcoat to ensure the groom stands out from the group. A very cool trend in mens wedding wear that we can all take note of.
Now let’s check out their great décor choices: a quintessential beach driftwood arch with a couple of bouquets to create a ceremony backdrop, classic seashells, lanterns and hurricane candles on the tables, and another noteworthy clever idea – using beach stones painted with guests’ names as their place settings! Well done, Heather and Kevin – this is the classic beach wedding to inspire them all! Taryn Baxter Photography captured it beautifully.
From the Bride… Kevin and I met each other when we both attended University. I can still remember the first day I saw him – I first thought, “wow that guy is tall “and then he introduced himself and he instantly had my attention. We started out as friends and after several attempts at asking me out to dinner, I finally said yes. From that point on, there was no looking back. Kevin is the kindest most captivating man I have ever met – a future together felt effortless and exciting.
Having moved away from Vancouver to Calgary three years ago, we knew we wanted to get married on the West Coast. It is no secret that we miss the ocean so it felt fitting to get married in my parent’s backyard with their incredible Pacific Ocean view. During the planning process, we decided that it was important to us that we add touches of family and friends into our wedding day – bits and pieces that would provide a memory not just for us, but for someone we love. My mom’s closest friends made our beautiful wedding cake, hand wrote our seating plan rocks and one even performed a live acoustic show during our cocktail hour – it was remarkable. Each time I visited home before our wedding date, my mom, sister and I would grab an empty backpack and head down to the beach below my parents property and collect shells as décor for the big day. It felt like we were kids again looking for treasures, being meticulous about which ones we would bring home with us – these days I will carry with me forever.
As with all weddings, they aren’t complete without a brilliant team of people. Kevin and I look back on our day and wouldn’t change a single moment. This is all thanks to the partners we worked with to make our day come together. Spread Love Events made the planning process fun and exciting – their attention to detail is what separates them from the rest. Being the foodies we are, we both agreed that we wanted delicious food and Savoury City provided us with a meal our guests still talk about. Last but certainly not least, the two people that allowed for us to remember our wedding day forever – our photographer and videographer. Oleg and the Memento team arrived the morning of the wedding and instantly calmed my nerves – their seamless direction and constructive approach helped me to get through all the stress of the morning. Our wedding video far surpassed our expectations – we are thrilled to share this video with family for years to come. Last but certainly not least, Taryn Baxter. Taryn photographed my sister’s wedding last summer, my brother’s wedding last February and then came our big day. I had full faith that I would love the photos, but was truly blown away by the beauty she captured. From start to finish, working with Taryn was an absolute pleasure.
Our day was full of love, laughter, and tears of joy. And above all, it was full of memories with the people we love most in this world. Our wedding day, on July 25th, was truly the happiest day of our lives.
