Travel-themed wedding at the Historic Southern Railway Station

Happy, happy Monday, friends! ♥  We’re starting the week off with the sweetest-ever wedding + filled with some of the prettiest details imaginable the wedding of Marvyl and Eric’s winter wedding, designed and planned by Team Wedding we almost don’t even know where to start. Marvyl and Eric’s travel-themed wedding will transport you to the most adorable venue and wedding details you’ve ever seen. Taking a twist on the Southern wedding theme, this couple departed for their special day at the Historic Southern Railway Station, and all the details of their event reflected their love for travel.

The programs were done in the style of passports, with the flower girl tossing stamps instead of petals. The bridesmaids were dressed like vintage flight attendants and carried vintage suitcases, and each table was themed after a different country around the world. Instead of a guestbook, Marvyl and Eric used postcards from around the world for their guests to sign. The colours in the table décor reflected the golds and navy blues of vintage maps and globes.

Love these vintage travel-themed wedding programs were done in the style of passports.

Marvyl and Eric have such great style! We love their looks. Also loving these portraits of the two of them.

The bridesmaids were dressed like vintage flight attendants and carried vintage suitcases.

Each of the bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses with blue hats and held vintage suitcases instead of traditional bouquets.

The pretty flower girl wore a navy blue dress and she tossed stamps instead of rose petals.

“We collected vintage post cards, and then we had guests write messages for us on them, then they were mailed to us.” said the bride.

We love their vintage Travel-themed wedding table. Love the idea mix and match!  Sprayed the leaves in glitter gold colour and mixed them with flowers of different colours and textures for their wedding centerpieces.

Fab Mood : Why did you choose travel-themed wedding?  

Marvyl – The bride :  I was born in Oregon and moved all over the states, and Eric was born in PA but then grew up in Saudi Arabia and went to boarding school in England. We always thought it was so crazy that so many things in the universe had to align to get us on the same patio in the same city at the same time. We just loved the symbolism of our journeys connecting and that now, no matter where we go in the world together we get to go together.

Fab Mood : Did you design & plan your own wedding?

Marvyl – The bride : I did! Which sounds crazy-and is. I launched my wedding planning company Team Weddin 15 days before we got married so literally we got married and then had our first wedding two weeks later 🙂  We got a dog on Thanksgiving, moved into our new house the week of Christmas, and then launched my business in January.

Speaking of Christmas, Our unity ceremony! We didnt really have a traditional ceremony, so I didn’t want a normal unity ceremony. Since I adore Christmas, we actually put two pins in a globe ornament and now whereever we go we put a pin in that place!

Fab Mood : We love your style and your bridesmaids, may we know more about them.

Marvyl – The bride :  I was really worried about the dresses for the girls. It was actually his idea to do the flight attendant theme and I never thought they would go for it. They ended up loving the idea! But my ladies were all different shapes and sizes and I knew the typical flight-attendant style pencil skirt wasn’t going to jive with all of them, so I opted for a less fitted and less expensive dress.

They also had pockets!  I know every bride says they want a dress their bridesmaids could wear again. But I really did want that. I tried to think of something that would be casual enough for them to use as a work cocktail dress or something. And that’s why we went for shorter even though it was a winter wedding. As they were standing out in the cold taking pictures, I told them they’d thank me later!

Fab Mood : Tell us about your favors.

Marvyl – The bride : I became overly obsessed with the favors. I loved the idea of those airmail boxes, but I struggled with what to fill them with. I finally got the idea from my brother, who was stationed in Japan. While I was over visiting him, I fell in love with this Japanese candy and he sent some back to me.

So I decided I’d order candy from all over the world and fill them! Which, in theory sounded like a great idea. We packed all 150 of them and then one of my girls decided to try some of my choices. Needless to say, I’m sure some of my guests were not delighted with the Greek and Mexican candies I included 🙂  I am no longer allowed to order any foreign candies in my house!  🙂

Fab Mood : Tell us about your wedding stationery.

Marvyl – The bride : Our invitations were airplane tickets, and our rehearsal dinner invites were actually train tickets because we had the dinner in the train cars!

The program passports actually had a page in the back for guests. They could go in our “passport booth” and have their photo taken so they could stick it on there. Super fun!

Fab Mood : Tell us about wedding centerpieces.

Marvyl – The bride  : We actually went out antiquing for all the centerpiece items and suitcases. At first my husband HATED it. I basically had to drag him kicking and screaming into an antique shop, but before we were out of the first store he acted like he was on Antique Roadshow.

The centerpiece that was on the Japan table was his big find (which by the way, we sat at the Japan table because he actually flew me out to Japan so he could ask my brother’s permission to marry me CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!

Yes! So, the only part of the wedding I didn’t plan were the flowers. My friend Colby took it upon himself to try and capture my ridiculous personality in the flowers. He knew I wouldn’t want boring winter flowers. But that I loved fall and winter. So he painted the leaves with the glitter spray and gold spray. So that it was kind of like, pops of spring inside the winter feel. They were so different, I’d never seen leaves in a centerpiece before!

Fab Mood : Any advice for fellow brides to be?

Marvyl – The bride  : I would say, don’t let anyone make you feel like the choices you made for your day aren’t right. If it’s not traditional, if it’s not “normal”, it doesn’t matter…it’s a day for you and your partner and if it is special to you, then that is all that matters.
